Mukkamukka

Hear the pronunciation, spoken by Ananais Jawulba

Mukkamukka is a yirridjdja moiety place in the Darnkolo clan estate, shared with Marrirn clan. It is on the Mann River and there is a sacred site there related to the Mardayin ceremony. The Mardayin is there in the water but we cannot talk about any of the details because they are secret. It is okay to go fishing there and we do. There are crocodiles there; they rise to the surface and are visible in the late afternoon, when it’s starting to get dark.

Mukkamukka kunred Darnkorlo, Marrirn. Mukkamukka mankabo kahdi. Djang namekke ngarrihmarnbun nanih dream. Mardayin name kayo, Mardayin kayo kuronj bad minj ngarrihmulehmulewan. Nakka kamak wakkidj kanewe, kamak wakkidj. Kinga kayo bad ngokko yawoyhdolhme bu kangokdan.
